Dedicated scanning machines have been employed to complete scanning tasks for a very long time, but they were expensive and had no user-friendly features. Since smartphones have become more accessible, we have seen a huge rise in applications that scan documents in order to reduce the overall work involved in scanning and digitizing the physical documents.
Apps that are famous for their privacy and adware concerns are CamScanner and other similar apps. India has banned 59 apps, including CamScanner, out of concern for the data of Indians amid tensions between the country and China.
It is fortunately possible to replace Adobe Scan with the Adobe Lens and Microsoft Office Lens, both of which offer very similar functionalities with a very similar user interface. Using apps such as Adobe Scan and Office Lens, users can take a picture of a document, crop it to their specifications, apply filters, and export it to a PDF format.
It is an Adobe app dedicated to scanning and sorting documents which is a great alternative to Adobe Imaging and Adobe Scan. In terms of expectations, because Adobe Scan is designed by Adobe, we have pretty high ones; however, the application exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Scans by Adobe works in addition to Adobe’s existing PDF Reader application.
It is possible to scan documents to PDF and share them easily with Adobe Scan. There is also a preview option to optimize the dimensions, the edit option allows you to crop, rotate, apply a color filter and more as required. Using Adobe Scan, users will be able to scan a document and then join together with other Adobe apps to create documents by annotating, editing, and signing them. You can download and use Adobe Scan for free, it has all the features you need.
Microsoft Office Lens
It is likely that you will enjoy the experience of the Microsoft Office Lens app if you have previously used Adobe Scan or CamScanner for their functionality and simplicity. When compared to Adobe Scan, Microsoft Office Lens works well with Microsoft Office Suite. Available on Android and iOS, the app is very interactive and has a simple interface, and it works well with other Office Suite apps. Additionally, you can generate output in Word and PowerPoint alongside the regular PDF through the Microsoft Office Lens.
Despite being extremely good on its own, the scan option still struggles to match Adobe’s quality. You can use the Microsoft Office Lens to scan documents with ease if you use Office Suite applications. Also, you can convert scanned files into text with the OCR functionality in Office Lens.
In our experience, Scanbot was more feature-rich than Adobe Scan and Microsoft Office Lens in terms of Document Scanning, even though it is not endorsed by Adobe or Microsoft.
The Scanbot application comes with good folder organizing options to structure your documents better, it also comes with the smart file name, cloud sync, automatic uploads, and more that can make your experience better.
Scanning different types of documents using Scanbot produces good quality results, including photos, notes, and business cards. You can choose from five different color modes for the Scanbot app in order to make sure the scanned documents look as real as possible.
An image can be scanned, cropped, and the colors of the output can be optimized using tools integrated into the program. Scanbot allows you to export the images in JPG and PDF formats and is compatible with most modern cloud providers for the automatic upload and cloud sync feature. To send your scanned documents, you can use the fax option for sending them directly to a destination country in one of the 50 supported countries.
In addition to the numerous individual apps available, there is also a software known as Genius Scan, which claims to have digitized over half a billion documents. Similar to ScanBot, the application converts paper-based documents to PDF or JPG formats. A smart page detection feature detects the correct dimensions of the scanned document and applies perspective corrections, as well as image enhancements.
Batch scanning is also supported, allowing you to scan multiple pages of a physical document simultaneously to create digital copies.
Similarly to all major document scanning apps, Genius Scan offers enhancement features. The scanned documents can also be uploaded to the most popular cloud services. Protecting sensitive documents is also possible with a password using Genius Scan, If you prefer more features than the free version, there is also a premium version.
